Wilmington, DE - For the second time in a week, the Wilmington Blue Rocks suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the defending Carolina League champion Frederick Keys. Wilmington dropped the opener, 6-1, before faltering in the nightcap, 3-2, at Frawley Stadium on Tuesday evening. The setbacks halted the Blue Rocks season-best winning streak at four games and dealt the club its first home defeats since April 14.

Frederick, which swept the Rocks in a doubleheader at Harry Grove Stadium on April 22, jumped all over Wilmington starter Matt Kniginyzky in the opener. Chris Amador shattered a scoreless game with a two-out, two-run double to right field in the top of the third, a shot that sailed over the head of a drawn-in Joe Dickerson.

After the Rocks manufactured a run against Jake Renshaw (3-2) on a Dickerson groundout in the bottom of the third, the Keys piled on three more tallies in the fourth to take a commanding 5-1 advantage. Frederick batted around against the combination of Kniginyzky (0-2) and reliever Russ Haltiwanger, working out three walks in the process. Billy Rowell clocked an RBI double while Jason White delivered run-scoring knock, the latter chasing the Canadian right-hander. Haltiwanger entered with the bases jammed and issued a walk to the first man he faced, Paul Winterling, to push home the fifth Frederick run.

The lone Blue Rocks bright spot from game one was Derrick Robinson, who went 3-for-4 with an run scored plus a stolen base. It was the fourth three-hit game of the season for the Gainesville, FL native.

The nightcap began in promising fashion for the home team, as Wilmington took an early 1-0 lead via a Chad Thall wild pitch that scored Robinson.

Wilmington fell behind 2-1 the next inning, as three straight two-out hits plus a wild pitch by starter Jason Godin produced a pair of Keys tallies. After White's RBI knock to right knotted the game at one, Mike Pierce came home with the go-ahead run on Godin's errant delivery.

The Blue Rocks would plate the equalizer in the third, as Robinson doubled to lead off the frame and soon stole third base - his 12th swipe of the season. Chris McConnell tied the game with a sac fly to shallow right field that second-bagger Chris Amador caught with his back to home plate. The speedy Robinson tagged and beat the off-line throw home.

But, Wilmington would produce no further offense in the affair despite countless chances. The Blue Crew stranded six runners in the contest, including four in scoring position. In a 2-2 game, Wilver Perez doubled to start the fourth and took third on a Vega flyout to right. However, Perez was stranded following consecutive groundouts by Matt Morizio and Brett Bigler.

After a well-executed two-out suicide squeeze against reliever Gilbert De La Vara gave the Keys the lead in the top of the sixth, the Rocks responded with a two-out threat in the bottom half. But, Morizio harmlessly grounded out to the mound to strand pinch runner Jarrod Dyson at third.

Jason Burch got the Rocks in order in the seventh to close the game and notch his fifth save.

The loss spoiled a quality outing by Godin (1-1), who registered a season-high six strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. He allowed just three runs - two earned - on six hits.

Wilmington will try to salvage the final game of the series on Wednesday as the Rocks and Keys play a special 11:05 a.m. contest at Frawley Stadium. Blue Rocks right-hander Blake Wood (1-1, 4.56) will oppose Frederick righty Jake Arrieta (2-0, 2.81).
